SOP: Switching DNS in GoDaddy to Amplify Websites
Summary
This SOP details how to publish your site in the Ministry Brands Amplify Websites dashboard, obtain the required DNS records, and configure those in GoDaddy’s DNS manager. Following these steps ensures your domain (e.g., yourchurch.org) points to your new Amplify site with SSL, minimizing downtime and search-engine impact. Changes typically propagate within 15 minutes to 48 hours.
Prerequisites
- Access to the Amplify Websites dashboard (publish permissions)
- Access to the GoDaddy account owning the domain (domain-DNS permissions)
- Target domain name (e.g., yourchurch.org)
Roles & Responsibilities
- Web Admin: Executes Amplify publish and copies DNS values
- IT/DevOps: Configures DNS records in GoDaddy and verifies propagation
Procedure
1. Publish Your Website in Amplify
- Log into the Amplify Websites dashboard.
- Navigate to Manage Websites, hover over the ⋮ (Tri-Dot) next to your site, and click Site Settings.
- On Edit Site Settings, click Publish. In the dialog, enter your domain (e.g., yourchurch.org), then click Publish.
2. Copy Your DNS Records from Amplify
- After publishing, Amplify displays two Domain Name Records:
- A Host Record (points your root domain to an IP address)
- CNAME Record (points your subdomain, usually www, to your Amplify site host)
- Copy or screenshot both records (hostnames and values) for use in GoDaddy.
